The Khyber is a performance powderboard and more. Its wider nose, generous sidecut and increased taper provides improved trim, float and maneuverability in powder conditions compared with standard freeride shapes.
The Khyber is named after a large, off-piste area on Whistler Mountain that is famous for its excellent treed powder stashes. There is a great view of the Khyber region from the Prior store above our factory - on a good day we can ride the Khyber Trees almost into our back door.
Riders
Riders of all levels and abilities can excel on the Khyber, particularly in powder and areas requiring extra maneuverability.
Ride
The Khyber trims up in the powder with ease and exceeds all others in tight trees with its float and quick turning nimbleness. The Khyber's ride is smooth, stable and predictable. Lastly, the Khyber still performs extremely well on hardpack conditions and rides switch with ease - a great help to relieve calf strain on those long traverses back to the lift at the end of a powder foray.
Recommended Length
We suggest you ride the Khyber either the same length as your standard freeride board or a few cm shorter.
Conditions
The Khyber excels in powder of all kinds - its quick turning shape makes riding tight trees easy. The Khyber also performs surprisingly well on groomed runs, ice, crud, and all-mountain conditions.
Design
Shape: The Khyber has a large nose for float in the powder. A combination of a narrower, shorter tail, setback inserts and significant taper, reduce hangup from behind the rear foot yet still allow enough width through the tail to reduce heel-toe drag while carving.
Radius: Moderate for quick edge-to-edge transfer and turning ability.
Flex: The Khyber is stable underfoot with a slightly softer nose and tail for powder performance.
Strength: Prior's handcrafted sidewall construction results in board longevity- the Khyber will retain its camber and performance for several years.
