Our best selling splitboard is now available in a carbon version that reduces overall weight by more than one pound!! ...less really does mean more.
Prior has been testing with carbon for more than two years and has developed a system that produces a lighter, more responsive product without sacrificing strength, dampness or stability. The future has arrived.
***Limited quantities available for winter 2008***
The new Carbon Khyber Splitboard provides significant weight savings allowing backcountry enthusiasts to ascend with less effort, saving valuable energy for those memorable powder descents. To begin with, Prior has chosen to offer the Carbon Khyber in two topsheets as follows:
Carbon White Topsheet Option
A White topsheet stays cooler on a sunny day. As a result, the amount of snow that melts on the topsheet and subsequently freezes and becomes very difficult to remove as you continue to ascend up a mountain is minimized. The weight of a Carbon Khyber splitboard with a white topsheet is approx. 3680 grams / 8.15 lbs.
Carbon Non-top
Prior has developed a pressing method where the topsheet is eliminated altogether, exposing the rich depth of the carbon weave saturated with epoxy resin. The Carbon top is a long lasting finish that provides the lightest splitboard offering possible. The total weight of the Carbon Khyber Splitboard with the plain carbon top is approx. 3460 grams / 7.6lbs.
This is a weight savings of approximately 490grams or 1 lb from our regular Khyber splitboard!!
***weight is measured with basic Voile split hardware including Tip Clips, Chinese Hooks, Touring Brackets and Heel Lifters.****

Ride
The Carbon Khyber splitboard trims up in the powder with ease and exceeds all others in tight trees with its float and quick turning nimbleness. The carbon adds a bit of extra pop and this versatile board rides switch when needed - it also performs extremely well on hardpack conditions and varied snowpack.

Conditions
The Carbon Khyber excels in powder of all kinds. The Carbon Khyber also performs surprisingly well on groomed runs, ice, crud, and all-mountain conditions.

Design
Shape: The Carbon Khyber has a longer, wider, more gradually shaped nose than our regular freeride boards for improved float in the powder. A combination of a narrower, shorter tail, setback inserts and significant taper, complete the powder profile. Note there is still plenty of width through the rear insert pack to minimize heel and toe drag.
Turning radius: Moderate for quick edge-to-edge transfer and turning ability.
Flex: The Carbon Khyber is stable underfoot with a slightly softer nose and tail for powder performance. The carbon creates a somewhat softer flex than the regular Khyber split, yet torsional stability is not compromised.
Strength: All Prior splitboards have steel edges and UHMW sidewalls around each board half. This feature combined with Prior's handcrafted sidewall construction, results in board longevity.
